Velia Wortman
Dr.Velia Wortman is one of The|Tides higly regarded teachers and consultants on the rational integration of western medicine with traditional Chinese medicine as well as natural medicine. Velia studied social anthropology at the University of Toronto, western medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in London and completed her post-graduate training in family medicine in Germany. She has been certified in acupuncture as well as naturopathy from the Bavarian Doctors' Association.
Velia considers herself a student of two modern masters of traditional Chinese medicine - Ted Kaptchuk and Dan Bensky - and has been in private practice in Nürnberg, Germany for the past 16 years. Together with Ted, Velia taught the Chinese herbal medicine course at The Anglo-Dutch Institute for Oriental Medicine and she served as the editor of the Orientations Journal.
Publications include: Pocketbook of Acupuncture (co-author Carl-Hermann Hempen), Thieme International 2005; A Materia Medica for Chinese Medicine by Hempen and Fischer, Elsevier 2008 (translation), Acupuncture in the Treatment of Pain by Bäcker and Hammes (translation).
